Dance Umbrella 2009 presents BODIES IN URBAN SPACES

Welcome to Dance Umbrella's bodies in urban spaces blog.
Over the next month you can view short video clips on this free outdoor performance that is part of Dance Umbrella 2009. They will range from interviews with choreographer Willi Dorner to exclusive rehearsal footage of our acrobatic performers creating their uncanny human sculptures.

Here's a bit of background to bodies in urban spaces -

Since 2007, Dance Umbrella has presented family-friendly, free-to-view events which have proved popular with thousands of Londoners. bodies in urban spaces is an intriguing trail, in which 20 performers lead the audience through some of London’s most atmospheric public spaces.

Live body sculptures are set up quickly and exist fleetingly before the acrobatic performers disengage themselves and move on. The route is revealed as the work progresses, leaving it to the audience to follow the performers and discover the next installation. The colourful body sculptures offer a new and imaginative perspective on well-known spaces and architecture, as well as displaying astounding physical prowess.

Dance Umbrella is one of the world’s most exciting programmers of new dance. We thrive on the dynamism and openness of London and bring together artists and events which surprise and thrill audiences of all kinds. Each year we stage one of the world’s leading international dance festivals.
